Care of the environment
An important part of being in community is learning how to take care of our environment. We believe that learning how to take care of our classroom, materials, and space brings not only a sense of responsibility and ownership to children, but also instills the qualities of kindness that permeate out of these acts of care. Children love to see the results of their positive actions and are proud to be active participants in their environment.
Learning with, from, and about each other
At wBees, we learn from our materials, teachers, peers, and environment, and no single lesson is more valuable than the next. We see the huge benefits that come from being in community with our peers and guides and how learning can take a multitude of forms. We value all participants in our community and look for every opportunity to expand our offerings to each other and the community at large.
Involvement in our neighborhood
We’re so grateful to be part of our neighborhood and wider community! On our walks each day, we frequently have conversations about who lives in our community, our community spaces, and how we can contribute to creating a positive, clean, and safe community for everyone. We value the wonderful neighbors that surround us and enjoy exploring our neighborhood and all that it has to offer.
CONFLICT RESOLUTION
We focus on being part of a community and what it means to be in the community with our peers, teachers, families, wider school and our neighborhood community. For a child to understand that they are part of something larger, not only brings a sense of purpose and connection, but also helps to build up one’s sense of responsibility, care, and respect.
We focus on bringing empathy, cause & effect relations, and taking ownership of actions to solve conflicts. We set clear boundaries and expectations with all students and encourage them to set their own boundaries and advocate for themselves. We encourage each child to use their voice confidently to share their feelings and opinions and value self-expression.
Our biggest focus is teaching children to recognize, identify, and regulate their emotions. We create a nurturing and safe environment where children can explore their emotions and process them in a validating and positive manner. We find that when children are able to self-regulate and feel in-tune with themselves, they’re able to connect with their community in a harmonious way.
